This small work theme's stresses the major seventh of the scale in its opening gesture - G up to F sharp - as it also does in the related fugue subject. It is a simple song form structure using contrapuntal three-voice textures.

The fugue subject, like the opening theme, stresses the major seventh of the scale in its notated ornamentation, and again is a simple contrapuntal texture.
