A lightly disjunct pedal motive unifies the set of long, arching sequences which make steps in this procession. In a modified ABA form, there is a short middle section of contrast as the bass line stands away, before the return of the theme. Fully in C major, the sequences obscure any authentic cadence until the last lingering chord. The whole is imagined in the quieter registers of the organ.
