Liebeslied

Liebeslied

Klabund

for tenor and piano

Dein Mund, der schön geschweifte,
Dein Lächeln, das mich streifte,
Dein Blick, der mich umarmte,
Dein Schoß, der mich erwarmte,
Dein Arm, der mich umschlungen,
Dein Wort, das mich umsungen,
Dein Haar, darein ich tauchte,
Dein Atem, der mich hauchte,
Dein Herz, das wilde Fohlen,
Die Seele unverhohlen,
Die Füße, welche liefen,
Als meine Lippen riefen –:
Gehört wohl mir, ist alles meins,
Wüßt' nicht, was mir das liebste wär',
Und Gäb' nicht Höll' noch Himmel her:
Eines und alles, all und eins.

Klabund

The text is from Klabund's collection, Die Harfenjule. Berlin (1927).

Your mouth curves in charms,
Your smile which me disarms,
Your glance which all embraces,
Your bosom which me graces,
Your arm which light entwines,
Your word amusingly shines,
Your hair, I would unsheathe,
Your breath by which I breathe,
Your heart -- foal, wild and free,
Your soul unconcealed to me,
Those feet which skip on cloud,
Ah, my lips must cry aloud --;
Heed me, all is mine,
What's dearest, your moon, your sun,
Neither hell nor heaven define,
One and all, all and one.

A harmonic wandering across octaves in the accompaniment moves the litany of graces forward, settling into no sure key center, though gestures return in more than one transposition as the voice rises in its range. For other settings of Klabund's texts, click here.
