Make Me Hear of Joy and Gladness - (2019)

for organ

   for Nigel Potts

A mixture of simple scales and scalar passages in canon is combined with some half diminished minor seven chords combined into progressions, for a celebratory "splash," as Nigel  Potts wrote me upon receiving this work with a dedication to him. I had attended a choral evensong in April at which his choir performed Allegri's well known Misere miei, setting the text of Psalm 51. Thinking on the 10th verse in its English translation, this work suggested itself and was composed the following day. With terraced dynamics suggested, the work begins wholly diatonically, and then moves into polytonal colors.
