On "Yidl mitn fidl" - (2017)

for piano

The Yiddish-language film, Yidl mitn fidl" is said to be the last film made in Poland before the advance of Germany's National Socialists and the murderous, depraved destruction of European Jews and Yiddish culture in the few short years of WWII. The film featured well-known Polish actress, Molly Picon. A song for the film with the same title was written by Itzak Manger (1902-1969) and composed by Abraham "Abe" Ellstein (1907-1963).

ײדל מיטן פידל

The story's main characters are a young girl, Yidl, who plays the violin and her father, a bass player in a small klezmer ensemble. For this, a light two-part essay on the wonderful tune by Ellstein portrays these two "voices."
