Prelude and Fugue in A flat major - (2012)
for piano
A lyrical, long-lined theme is introduced with related gestures, and then a four- and five-voice chorale-like texture gently sings out the prelude.
The fugue subject is a succession of falling sevenths, accompanied even in the initial statement. Counterpoint changes, moving from duple to triple within the overall duple meter. A moment of animando is answered with a short stretto-like coda as the fugue ends quietly.
