Prelude and Fugue in C major - (2012)
for piano
Phrases of parallel triads and accumulating chords make a jaunty texture for the prelude. Hints of a children's song and dalliances into whole-tone colors decorate the piece.
The fugue subject, while rooted on the tonic major, strays momentarily into a whole-tone scale. This scheme follows throughout the fugue's development. The subject appears sometimes in imitation with itself, and the whole is finished off with a final statement in the deep bass register.
