Prelude and Fugue in E flat minor - piano

Prelude and Fugue in E flat minor - (2012)

for piano

The theme for the prelude is the same subject for the fugue as well, a gesture of two phrases in triple meter with a contrasting phrase to complete the thought. Stated across several octaves, it is varied by cadences and counterpoint. Diatonic clusters form the diminutive ending.

The theme in itself has no third of the scale, allowing answers to be given in both the mediant major and dominant. The first restatement at measure 53 is in the mediant major. Cascades of scales interrupt the contrapuntal texture.
