Prelude and Fugue on D

Prelude and Fugue on D - (2012)

for organ

for Geert Jan Pottjewijd

The preposition "on" in the title refers to the inclusion of major, minor, chromatic and diatonically modal colors used throughout. The opening gestures fall in half-step lines shared among the top voices, after which a bridge in wholly diatonic motion contrasts before a return to the opening statement.

The fugue subject is also modal, while elements of major and minor tonality show from time to time, especially at the final cadence to reinforce the tonic D.
