Three Three Flat Fugues - (2014)

for piano

As with the previous sets of fugues sharing a single key signature but different tonal domains, this set is organized on the signature with three flats, major and minor emphasizing the augmented second between third and fourth degrees of the melodic scale.

The first in that of a bright major in a jaunty 6/8 meter.

The second employs a subject of two voices in triads with a cadence of independent movement.

The last is in one of the minor domains, this emphasizing the melodic scale with a raised fourth for a consistent augmented second between the minor three and raised fourth. A variety of canonic and fugue strategies rush by, the crab requiring some unusual spelling to clarify.
